The software listed on this page is 100% freeware and of high quality. I have found this software in some way useful and beneficial to me so I am sharing with you what I consider the best freeware on the Internet.

  • Opera - A Web browser that offers many features such as tabbed browsing, mouse gestures, thumbnail tab previews, and more.
 

Multimedia

  • Audacity - Free, open source software for recording and editing sounds.

  • burnatonce - Can master data and audio discs, read/write image files and copy on the fly.

  • CDBurnerXP Pro - With this software you can burn CD-R, CD-RW DVD+R/RW DVD-R/RW discs.

  • Exact Audio Copy - Rips audio CDs and is considered the most accurate ripper available. [Tutorial]

  • foobar2000 - A simplistic audio player that plays virtually every audio file out there while using minimal system resources.

  • GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) - Ideal for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It works on many operating systems, in many languages.

  • HIP (Human Interface Programmer) - HIP is a simple and highly configurable system that allows you to control up to 81 different applications using a remote control. Ideal for users of HTPCs (home theater personal computers).

  • IrfanView - A very fast, small, compact and innovative graphic viewer that supports almost every image format availlable.

  • iTunes - Apple's audio ripper and audio/video playing application. Supports playing and ripping to WAV, MP3, AAC, and Apple Lossless.

  • iTunes Album Art Importer - Searches Amazon.com for album art and then uses iTunes to add the album art to the selected songs.

  • MediaPortal - An open source application ideal for turning your PC / TV into a very advanced multimedia center. MediaPortal allows you to listen to your favorite music & radio, watch your video's and DVD's, view, schedule and record live TV and much more.

  • Mp3tag - Mp3tag is a powerful and yet easy-to-use tool to edit metadata (ID3, Vorbis Comments and APE) of common audio formats. It can rename files based on the tag information, replace characters or words from tags and filenames, import/export tag information, create playlists and more.

  • Paint.Net - An advanced version of Microsoft's Paint program. Offers many options for photo editing.

  • Picasa - Helps you instantly find, edit and share all the pictures on your PC.

  • QuickTime Alternative - Plays QuickTime media files without the need of the QuickTime player by using Media Player Classic.

  • Real Alternative - Plays Real media files without the need of the Real player by using Media Player Classic.

  • Winamp - Winamp is a media player that plays many formats and offers a media library to browse through your music collection. Winamp can also rip CDs to your computer.

 

Productivity

  • Notepad2 - A slightly more robust version of Microsoft's Notepad program. Supports syntax schemes for programming and HTML code.

  • Notepad++ - An advanced text editor that allows for tabbing of multiple open text documents and supports syntax schemes for programming and HTML code.

  • OpenOffice.org - A multiplatform and multilingual office suite and an open-source project. Compatible with all other major office suites. Creates word/text documents, spreadsheets, and databases.

  • PDFCreator - A tool to create PDFs easily from nearly any application.

  • RocketDock - A dock program that allows you to place shortcuts to programs on the dock as well as minimize windows to the dock.

 

Security

  • Ad-Aware - Ad-Aware Personal provides advanced protection from known data-mining, aggressive advertising, Trojans, dialers, malware, browser hijackers, and tracking components.

  • Avast! AntiVirus Home Edition - Avast! Home Edition is a full-featured antivirus package designed exclusively for home users and non-commercial use.

  • AVG AntiVirus Free Edition - Searches computer for viruses, removes viruses, and also provides real-time protection from viruses.

  • Spybot - Search & Destroy - Searches computer for spyware and removes spyware as well as prevents spyware from being installed.

  • SpywareBlaster - Prevents the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted software and blocks spyware/tracking cookies.

  • Windows Defender - Helps protect your computer against pop-ups, slow performance, and security threats caused by spyware and other unwanted software.

  • ZoneAlarm Free - A firewall that monitors incoming and outgoing network connections to your computer.

 

Utilities

  • 7-Zip - Compresses/decompresses 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2, TAR and decompresses RAR, CAB, ARJ, LZH, CHM, Z, CPIO, RPM and DEB.

  • CCleaner - A system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history.

  • Cobian Backup - A program that can be used to schedule and backup your files and directories from their original location to other directories/drives in the same computer or other computer in your network. FTP backup is also supported in both directions (download and upload).

  • Eraser - Wipes files on a hard drive to make the data unrecoverable.

  • Dimension 4 - Synchronizes the Windows clock to atomic servers.

  • KeePass - A password manager that stores your passwords in an encrypted database.

  • PC Inspector File Recovery - Finds deleted files and recovers them.

  • TrueCrypt - Creates a virtual encrypted disk within a file and mounts it as a real disk. This is great for storing sensitive files and info you don't want anybody else seeing.
